What Open Source Has Given Me

I was jotting this down while leaving my rice to cook.

Open source has given me a lot. It has let me put my hands on many different things: learnt about testing methodologies, CLI, backend APIs, OpenAPI documents, skills, CI/CD, hugo (that’s why this blog page is live). It’s a feeling like you are in a open world game and exporing the map, and each day you experience something different. That has been the case for me since about 5 months, and it’s great. It’s like I unlocked a whole new horizon of my brain, scalability, user experience, I can go on..

But the biggest takeaway has been consistency.

Since I started my open source journey, it felt like I had a mission to accomplish. It gave me a reason to sit at my desk, and think and get shit done. That is something I had not really experienced in my life before, and it’s amazing. Thinking about couple months back, I felth like watching one tutorial a day is enough and I am still moving, and I think most of us have been in that phase of our life. And if you are at that phase right now, change it. You will never learn better than jumping into things and figuring it out.

With AI, I think figuring things out has gotten easier, you have a sparring partner by your side, but that boundary can easily be crossed if you are not careful. I have a moto for now, use AI for work and for learning but don’t use it in a way you lose your cognitive load. ( a whole blog can be written at this, so I won’t further elaborate)

Working on meshery has changed the way I operate and think. As my LFX term is 15 days away from completion, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the entire Meshery project, all the maintainers, and especially Lee Calcote, my mentor for LFX.

I have huge respect for Lee, his passion for the project, and the dedication he brings to it. Huge respect, and I truly love your work, man.
